Tom Caldwell

Tom’s passion and career have been in the field of law enforcement and public safety when he began a 29-year career in 1989 with The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office. He has also worked with The Georgia Department of Corrections in various capacities and most recently as Chief Deputy at The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office for over 13 years.

He holds a B.S. In Business Administration from Shorter University and in 2006, earned a Master’s Degree in public administration from Columbus State University. Tom is a graduate of the University of Georgia, Carl Vinson Institute of Government Leadership Training Initiative (2004).  In 2006, he successfully completed The Georgia Law Enforcement Command College. In 2009, he became the first deputy in the history of The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office to be accepted and graduate from The FBI National Academy (Session 238) in Quantico, Virginia. Tom is a Class XV (1998) graduate of Leadership Rome.

Community service and involvement have always been important to Tom. He has served as a youth football and baseball coach, a volunteer for the Sheriff’s Youth Initiative, Floyd County Special Olympics and Cops for Kids. He is a member and Past President (Distinguished 2011), Past Lt. Governor of The Rome Noon Optimist Club. He is a current member of The Exchange Club of Rome (Past Board of Directors). He is a member and Past Master (2015) of Cherokee Lodge #66 Freemasons.

Tom proudly serves as an active member of The Salvation Army of Rome Advisory Board, Next Door Advisory Board (Living Proof Recovery), Board of Trustees Cherokee Masonic Lodge, and as Community Liaison and Executive Board Member at The North Broad Youth Center. Tom teaches classes for seniors regarding Safety and Scams and volunteers with churches in Church Security Preparedness Training.

Tom Caldwell was born and raised in Rome, where he graduated from West Rome High School in 1983 and served as Captain of the 1982 state championship football team. He is a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he has served as Charmain of both Finance and Staff Parish Relations Committees. He is married to Jan Lyle Caldwell and has two grown children, Thomas V and Katherine.
